Asparagus Soup

I have never really been a big fan of soup especially soup I have never heard of. Hell my first time trying soup was this Christmas break of 2016! It was tortilla soup to be exact! When the teacher said we was making soup I wasn’t too excited. Even after we made the soup I still wasn’t impressed but I figured this would be good for people that like soup!

Ingredients

Butter – 2 oz

Onion- 4 oz

Leeks- 1/2 each

Asparagus – 8 oz

Flour- 1 1/2 oz

Milk- 2 c

Chicken Stock- 2 c

Cayenne, ground – TT

Parsley- 1 Tbsp

Granted Swiss Cheese- 4 oz

Directions

  • Melt butter in stainless steel sauce pot. Add onion and leeks. Sweat until translucent, Add the asparagus and sauté till brighten in color.
  • Stir in flour to coat vegetables. Gradually add chicken stock and milk . Add cayenne and parsley. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Lower to a simmer and cook until tender.
  • Add to soup.
  • Puree in blender. Stir cheese into hot soup.
  • Add at additional seasoning you may need.

Grand Lux Café

If you are from Dallas you know that Grand Lux Café is a nice place to eat at. It is not the most upscale place but it is pretty decent it is connected to one of our best and known malls named the Galleria.

(before we start let me remind you I have been a waitress for 3 years and currently working on my minor degree in hospitality management so I do have an idea how the restaurant business works)

ok so BOOM!…..

Lets start with the waitress I can not call her by her name cause I do not know it and I’m guessing she did not feel the need to share it!  MISTAKE #1

She was not personable at all and hardly said anything HELL I don’t even think she said, “are you guys ready to order”. I believe we had to tell her what we wanted to order. We can make that apart of mistake #1 just to cut her some slack.

I ordered the Shrimp Scampi Linguine ….


Doesn’t it look so good? Don’t be fooled like I was cause it wasn’t! Not only was it not good my food came out 5-10 min after the rest of the table. As a server or chef you know that it is most important for food to come out at the same time. While waiting for my food I did not receive a notice or an apology about the wait! MISTAKE #2

At this point I was over it all and informed the waitress that I did not like the food and she can inform the manager that it took too long for it not to be good. She did not ask me if I would like something else nor did the manager come to the table for a follow up. MISTAKE #3

Finally..

I ask another waitress to bring the manager over when he came I informed him about the service and he simply apologize in the simplest manner as he could which slightly irritated me. He also informed me that the pasta will be taking off, as if  I was going to pay for it anyways.

if you have not guess by now… I WILL NOT BE ATTENDING GRAND LUX AGAIN !!

Pasta Primavera

2 Servings

Cooking Time: 8-10 min

 

Ingredients/ Quantity

Vonion, small dice/ 1 cup

img_7678carrot, chopped/ 1

olive oil/ 1-2 T

garlic, chopped/ 2 cloves

celery, small dice/ 1

zucchini, small dice/ 1

tomato concasse/2

pasta

peas/ 1 oz

parsley, finely chopped

lemon zest

basil/ 2T

parmesan cheese/ 3T

Directions

  • Heat a medium saute pan and add the olive oil. dd onions and carrots and lower heat. Sweat until tender.
  • Add garlic, cook for 1 minute. Add celery, zucchini and tomatoes. Cook over low heat until  tender.
  • Fill a medium pot with cold water and add 1 Tablespoon of salt. Bring to a boil.
  • Cook pasta and when almost done add peas till they turn bright green.
  • Drain the pasta and peas
  • Add the basil, lemon, parsley and salt and pepper
  • Tossed cooked pasta with sauce and garnish with cheese.

I personally would have this dish as a side. If I was to prepare it as a entrée I would add chicken or shrimp. You can add your own Fiesta Flair

Zenna’s

Happy hour not so Happy

You can ask anybody I have been dying to go to Zenna’s  for their happy hour! The deals are to good to be true and to my dismay it was exactly to good to be true! My guest felt the exact same which was a little embarrassing because when I invite people out I like to make a good impression but I came to conclusion it was Zenna’s fault, not mine.

Not so Amazing food and drinks!

The sushi was mediocre and believe me I have had really good sushi. The drinks were watered down and taste like medicine may I add my guest and I all got different drinks. I can usually take the pain and drink or eat something I don’t like but this was unbearable I had to return it !

Oh but the dessert !

The last thing I put my faith in was the dessert. Surprisingly it was the best thing, we had fried banana and fried ice cream. I want to say it was breaded with coconut which is perfect because I love coconut!

(I would really like to add I did not go to the original Zenna’s which is located downtown. I went to the location in North Dallas)

In a nut a shell GO THERE AT YOUR OWN RISK! I plan to try the Downtown one.

 

Chef Fiesta

Although my blog is not just about food: we all know its mainly about food! This past semester I changed my minor from Marketing to Hospitality Management. I made this move because I found myself getting more involved in the restaurant business.

In this class we will be learning the business aspect of managing a restaurant, hotel, or casino. Most excitingly we will be learning how to cook! However I have never been much of a cook even through I make a mean RED VELVET DEEP FRIED OREO ! I am excited to learn and get more familiar with different taste and focus on preparation !

I will be posting recipes and pictures of the things I make in class so stay tuned. Most of the recipes should be affordable and simple to make so DONT WORRY! If I can do it so can you.

Pink Magnolia

Please let me start with how amazing Blythe Beck is. She is a true example of a Boss Lady ! Blythe is not only the owner but also the chef she is literally on the line giving it her all. I was nervous to meet her but her personality drifted all of my fears away. She is sweet and spontaneous lady and may I mention she is an UNT alumni which is the school that I attend now.

The menu is full of creative names and recipes. I was intrigued by the “Hoestacks” until the waitress informed us about the chicken biscuits made with homemade cheese biscuits ! This chicken biscuit was everything I could’ve dreamed of.

I loved my experience at Pink Magnolia and thank you Chef Blythe !

La Calle Doce

If you don’t know Oak Cliff holds some of the best restaurants. La Calle Doce is located in the Bishop Arts District which is a sight to see within its self.

La Calle Doce is a Mexican restaurant with a seafood twist. Walking in I had no idea what  I would eat due to the fact Mexican food and seafood is a weird mix. While looking over the menu I came across the California Tacos. The California Tacos consist of: shrimp, Spanish style coleslaw, chipotle ranch, a slice of avocado, rice and black bean relish as a side.

Unfortunately these tacos were not as good as I expected, but on the other hand I tasted some of my sister’s snapper fish and it was so delicious with plenty of flavor.

I will recommend this restaurant just to get a new experience and location in Dallas other than going downtown .

 

Angry Dog

Girl vs Food…

I have never been in a situation were food was a challenge for me!

But the hot dog I had was truly an ANGRY DOG.

Most restaurants do not offer hot dogs let alone chili dogs on the menu so believe me I was ecstatic to see that option! WAIT, I forgot to mention how much I love HOT DOGS, its one of my top 5 favorite foods (yes I do know what hot dogs are made of ).

When I told the server I wanted a THE hot dog he asked me, “do I want to add bacon on top and jalapenos on the side?” I gazed at him because that is everything up my alley!

  • time: This was the first restaurant I did not have to wait 30 min or more for my food. It came out at perfect timing, soon as I returned from the ladies room my food was waiting on me and not vis versa.

 

  • preparation : the presentation of the food was set up very nicely. Due to the fact it was a chilli dog I was expecting something a little more all over the place.

 

  • Taste: The hot dog was more than what I expected. The fact that hot dogs are so simple this dog in particular was beyond simple. I wont to also talk about the fries, even though they were not as seasoned the still had to freshest taste to them.IT WAS WEARID.

 

  • atmosphere: This was not my favorite atmosphere only because the tables were fairly close and I like to be personable with the person I came out to eat with, not the random person next to me.

Now this place will make you get up at 6 in the morning and make you “Rise & Shine” frfr!

  • I  had biscuits and gravy
  • sister had pancakes
  • brother had CHICKEN & Waffles

When I say EVERYTHING was good! Literally EVERYTHING was good!

The chicken had the perfect crunch, the pancakes taste just like fall & christimas, and the biscuit taste just like big mama made them ! I AINT LYING !

We all know what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas ! But this is just something I had to bring back !!

This place is really a SECRET/ whole in the wall! To get to this pizza place you have to already know the location! When you get to the location you have to ask an employee for directions!  Y’all know I LOVE PIZZA , so it took me no time to find the location!!
